From Butch’s journal:
The trip from Chillicothe to Athens, Ohio was only 64 miles. It was a quick and easy day. We spent the afternoon swimming and relaxing. We knew the next couple of days were going to be tough ones. We were just starting to get into the Appalachians. This was another college town, and the kids loved the college towns.
From Tani’s journal:
Today was a typical short day. We started out with a flat, and then we couldn’t ride on the road we wanted to. We stopped at a fruit stand where the fruit was only 4 or 10 cents. The guy must have stolen it.
Athens is a college town, and the guys went wild as usual. I can’t wait to get to D.C. We will enter West Virginia tomorrow. Only 4 more days left. I can’t believe it.
From Nancy’s journal:
We got up at about five o’clock this morning. We ate out at a restaurant, and we didn’t get out of there until late. Then Brad got a flat, and we were really late. The day passed quickly, but we are starting to get into the Appalachian Mountains. Athens was a college town, and it was really a neat place. I went to bed early as I was pretty tired.
