Journal Excerpts

From Butch’s journal:
After our two day rest in Boise, in which we checked our bikes, took in a movie, went swimming, and slept a lot, we were ready for our 105 mile trip to Fairfield, Idaho. This is in the southern part of Idaho, and the weather gets pretty hot there (106 degrees). We saw our first rattlesnake today. The kids had been going crazy ever since we left, wanting to see one. There were many hills, but we were again blessed with a tailwind. The last few miles into Fairfield, Carl and I sprinted into town; we were hitting close to 40 M.P.H. on the flats.
From Nancy’s journal:

We got up at three in the morning today and left Boise. We made good time to Mountain Home as we were on the freeway. But from there, we traveled on the backroads. It took a long time because there were many hills to climb, and the roads were bumpy. On the way, Doug saw a snake. He didn’t know what kind though. We flew down the other side as the wind was behind us for the first time in many days. On the flats, Carl and Butch were hitting about forty m.p.h.

From Tani’s journal:
We stayed up until 10:00 and only got 5 hours of sleep. It was worth it because it was the funniest night we’ve had so far. Everything everyone said was funny. We laughed for hours. Nancy took a picture of me sitting on Lon’s back giving him a back rub. I dove off quick. We are having such an outrageous time it’s not funny. The only thing I need is more sleep.
