Well, today was the big day. We left Battle Ground at six o’clock this morning amid many parents and a sign saying “Washington D.C. or bust my buns.” Now, as I sit here in the basement of the Baptist Church in the Dalles, I must say the sign is true. My rear end hurts so bad I can hardly sit down. I don’t know how I’ll be tomorrow, but I suppose I’ll live. My face and back are very sunburned, as it got to be rather hot.
We ate lunch at Multnomah Falls where we arrived at 10:15 a.m. After lunch, we continued on and the closer we got to the Dalles, the harder it got. Then, Ann’s bike went into the gravel, and she fell down. She scraped her leg and had to get five stitches in her chin. Besides that, she was okay. To top it all off, we had three flat tires and a screwed up sprocket.
I wasn’t too hungry at dinner so Tani and I bought a box of fruit loops and some milk. It cost us each about a total of 69 cents. On the way back from the store, Tani, Kevin, and I were so tired that we could hardly walk back up the hills to the church. We’d laugh and then collapse in the middle of someone’s yard.
Right now, I’m laying in my sleeping bag in the church basement. Everyone is sleeping in the same room. I gotta go to sleep now, before I pass out from exhaustion.
