Day 41: Versailles, IN (July 24, 1976) – 68 miles

Route Map

Journal Excerpts

From Butch’s journal:

The trip from Bedford to Versailles, Indiana was 68 miles. The temperatures are still very warm, and the humidity is getting worse every day. The church we stayed at today had a really neat pastor. He rode a motorcycle with a helmet that read “The Rev.” The picture to the right shows what happened when there was a delay in our departure time.

From Nancy’s journal:

We got up at five o’clock and ate out at a restaurant. It was really hot out today, and it made riding uncomfortable. But about the end of the ride, it clouded up and started to rain. It cooled off, and I felt like I could’ve gone on to Cincinnati.

Versailles was a small town, but it was neat. When Tani and I walked to the store, some boys stopped in a car and asked us if we wanted to go smoke out with them. We said, “Ah no, we have to go to the store.” What a dumb excuse! We didn’t get to bed until late.

From Tani’s journal:

Today was really hot, but in the afternoon, it clouded over and it wasn’t too bad. Versailles is a small town without a pool, so we had to drive a couple of miles to a lake. Kevin is still sick and will probably have to ride in the truck again tomorrow. I don’t feel all that great either. I’m trying to get lots of sleep, so I won’t get sick.
