Day 30: Wichita, KS (July 13, 1976) – 82 miles

Route Map

Journal Excerpts

From Butch’s journal:

The trip from Pratt to Wichita, Kansas was 83 miles. We started playing twenty questions to pass the time while we rode. The flat lands of Kansas can get a little monotonous, and we needed something to take our minds off the pedaling. A number of us have been getting sun poisoning, but nothing serious. When we got to Wichita, we received a postcard from Brent and Steve. They had just gone through Yellowstone National Park and entered Canada.

From Tani’s journal:

We got up at 4:00 A.M., but we cleaned everything up so fast that we all laid around for 45 minutes until it was light. Everyone felt good, and we didn’t have any wind, so we set kind of a fast pace. By the afternoon, a lot of us were burnt out.

From Nancy’s journal:

After that, we buzzed right into Wichita and arrived about three o’clock. We went swimming at a big pool. It felt so good after a long day’s ride. Later in the evening, Syd was teaching us some yoga and all about relaxation. I really like that kind of stuff, and when I get home, I’m going to read up on it. I’d like to have some sort of set program that I could do every day.
