Journal Excerpts

From Butch’s journal:
We decided to make it a short riding day and only go to Pueblo, Colorado, which was only 48 miles away. We didn’t take off until early afternoon, so everyone slept in late and enjoyed a relaxing morning. I had been having trouble with a sore tooth, so I went to a dentist before we left. He took X-rays, ground a filling down, and all for no charge when he learned of what we were doing. People were like that all the way across the United States. The ride was easy and short, but on arriving we couldn’t find Judy so we sat in a small grassy area in the middle of the road, watched cars go by, wrestle, doing tricks and in general wasting time until late. That was a little maddening to say the least. Pikes Peak was beautiful. They have a road going all the way to the top.
From Nancy’s journal:
I took a little nap after lunch, and soon it was time to get ready to go. We only had about 45 miles to Pueblo, so we left at three o’clock. We buzzed along pretty well, even though there was a headwind. We’ve had a wind in our faces for so long that I can’t remember what it was like not to have one. We stopped about every ten miles for a rest. The weather was just about perfect. It was warm, but not too hot. Everyone was in good spirits, and we sang songs and had so much fun.
From Tani’s journal:
When we got to Pueblo, we sat in a park for a couple of hours because Syd and Judy got their wires crossed. We had a lot of fun, and it was neat riding at night. When we got to the church, we went out to A&W and then to Dunkin Doughnuts. When we got back, we hit the sack.
